About MHN
Madini Health Network brings public health, occupational hygiene, mine safety, engineering, environmental health and local knowledge together to reduce preventable harm in artisanal and small-scale mining.
MHN is a Kenyan nonprofit organisation established in response to a persistent gap: serious hazards are visible at artisanal mining sites, yet miners and cooperatives often lack access to the technical support, practical controls and decision-ready evidence needed to address them.
We work alongside miners rather than designing solutions at a distance. Our role is to help identify priority risks, connect cooperatives with relevant expertise, support locally workable controls and translate field learning into stronger programmes and policy.

Our Mission
To work with miners, cooperatives, technical specialists and public institutions to identify mining risks, implement practical controls and build local capacity for safer and healthier artisanal mining.
Our Vision
Artisanal mining in which every worker can earn a livelihood without preventable injury, disease or death.

Where we work
MHN is beginning its programme development in Migori County, Kenya, where artisanal and small-scale gold mining supports many livelihoods and presents important occupational-health, safety and environmental-health challenges.
Our aim is not to impose a single model on every site. We are developing methods that account for differences in geology, mine design, production processes, cooperative capacity and available resources, while creating learning that can inform wider county and national action.

Governance
MHN is governed by its founding body, which provides oversight of strategy, finance, risk, safeguarding and organisational accountability. Day-to-day programmes are led by the executive team with support from appropriately qualified technical advisers and implementation partners.
